Ryerson
Varsity
The
team will be comprised lightweight and open men's and women's eights,
coxed fours, doubles and singles. The season runs from September
through early November, and culminates with the Canadian University
Rowing Championships (CURC) in St. Catharines.
In addition, men’s and women’s
varsity development and novice eights
are selected from students who have never rowed before but who are
interested in entering the sport. These crews train and travel on
the same intensive schedule as our experienced boats, and our top
men's and women's development boats -- dubbed Varsity "C"
-- compete at major regattas from Pittsburgh to St. Catharines.
Head
Coach Dominic Kahn has been rowing for 25 years and coaching for
18. He has coached on Canada's National Team and is currently the
Head Coach for Bayside Rowing Club. Some of his former athletes
have won Olympic and World Champion medals and he brings his experience
and enthusiasm to Ryerson University.
Bayside Rowing Club has hosted Ryerson Rowing
in 1996 and 1997 as an intramural sport. This year Bayside is partnering
with Ryerson University to provide rowing as a "club"
sport. We recognize our athletes as students first. Our boathouse
is only 15 minutes from campus by bike, which makes it unique among
universities in Canada. Its close proximity is good for time management
and sleep!
