There is no direct government funding available for this type
of youth programming, therefore, Bayside Rowing Club must
generate its own revenues in order to be self sufficient.
This simple premise dictates that in order to accomplish
the things we would like to - for youth at-risk - we need
to have programs for adults. The money generated from the
adult programs help pay for the kids programs. Also, boats
used by the kids during the daytime hours are utilized in
the evenings for our adult fund-raising programs.
Therefore, the formula for success could read as follows:
Kids (boats by day) x Adults (boats by night) = Efficient
Use of Resources
The following are brief descriptions of our adult (money
generating) programs:
1) Adult Rowing League & Corporate Challenge - This fun
league is operated like a softball league. It is offered once
each week for ten (10) weeks. Company teams spend the first
five weeks learning and the next five weeks racing each other
for fun and competition. The league wraps up at the Corporate
Crew Classic Regatta held at the end of July. (This program
is operated by the Friends of Bayside Rowing Club)
2) Adult Learn to Row - This program teaches rowing to adults
in the form of lessons. These lessons are held twice each
week (Saturday and Sunday mornings) over the period of four
weeks with sessions being held throughout the summer.
