Overview

This summer, join other disabled (visually impaired, amputee and wheelchair) athletes and their family members in the first annual Toronto Adaptive Rowing Initiative. Rowing is a fascinating sport and this pilot project happens to be fun for all. And it’s easy – if you can sit, you can row!

Adaptive Rowing Initiative

This initiative is hosted by Bayside Rowing Club and will see participants meet twice each week for two weeks on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Lessons begin Saturday August 17th at the Bayside Rowing Club.

The program takes place in the mornings over two weekends including August 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th. Rowers will have four (4) learning/practicing sessions two hours (9am-11am) in length under the supervision of one of our certified coaches.

This pilot project is part of Bayside Rowing Club’s TRY-abled program. It is designed to introduce those athletes with physical disabilities to the sport of rowing in a fun and friendly atmosphere. This year, during a summer camp program, deaf children from Silent Voice Canada participated in their third year of TRY-abled. The camp proves that all kids can participate in and enjoy rowing!

As this is a pilot poject, only athletes in the following classifications are invited to participate. In future years, more classifications will be included.

Visually impaired athletes – T11, F11, T12, F12, T13, F13
Amputee athletes – T43, T44
Cerebral palsy athletes – T38, F38
Wheelchair athletes – T54, F56, F57, F58
